INSPIRE FELLOWSHIP

Are you a dedicated mid-level sanitation sector professional passionate about driving change? If so, we invite you to apply for Niyel’s INSPIRE: Sanitation Leaders Driving Change program. This unique initiative focuses on leadership, advocacy, and the power of communication and storytelling in driving change. It’s designed specifically for mid-level sanitation sector professionals like you.

This fellowship program brings together individuals from different organisations within the sanitation sector. The nine-month, intensive training program will push you to apply the skills you gain to your work. You will be one of twelve meticulously selected fellows to receive continuous training, rigorous mentorship, and support to drive significant change within their home institution, organisations, and the broader sector in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Namibia

Wayambekange Ndatyoli Hamufenhu

Wayambekange Ndatyoli Hamufenhu is a Senior Development Planner at Namibia's Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation Coordination. With over 15 years of experience in the sector, her primary focus is raising awareness and encouraging behaviour change. This involves ensuring effective coordination and implementation of sanitation activities nationwide. In addition to her implementation and coordination role, Wayambekange develops and reviews sanitation policies.
Senegal

Abdoulaye Senghor

Abdoulaye Senghor heads the Control and Monitoring Division at the Directorate of Sanitation within the Ministry of Water and Sanitation in Senegal. The division covers sanitation enforcement, technical monitoring, and environmental dossier tracking. He oversees the planning and monitoring of sanitation projects across regions. Abdoulaye ensures compliance with environmental regulations and oversees the progress of sanitation initiatives to promote public health and environmental sustainability.
Burkina Faso

Gouem Tonguim Aimé Césaire

GOUEM Tonguim Aimé Césaire is a seasoned WASH specialist with over a decade of experience in development and emergency projects. He has a deep passion for sanitation, particularly in rural areas, where he has accumulated significant expertise. Dedicated to mobilizing resources and elevating sanitation on the regional development agenda, he strives to bring forth and highlight the importance of investing in sanitation to support sustainable development.
Zambia

Racheal Tembo

Racheal Tembo is the Senior Health Education Officer and Lead of Sanitation Programs within the Local Authority in Lusaka. She has been instrumental in driving health education initiatives and leading sanitation programs. Racheal oversees and implements sanitation programs that address crucial public health issues. Her innovative and community-focused approach has garnered success in promoting hygiene practices and improving overall sanitation standards within the region.
Kenya

Neville Yator

Neville Yator is a Civil Engineer with extensive expertise in the Water sector, including regulation, design, construction supervision, and project management. Currently serving as a Standards Officer at the Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB). He is integral to developing and enforcing industry standards and policies. Neville’s career reflects a strong commitment to advancing the water sector and ensuring effective management and policy development.
Cameroon

Wefang Wedze Lucrece

Wefang Wedze Lucrece is a Water and Sanitation Design Engineer specialized in infrastructure planning and environmental protection. As the Secretary General of the Association Nationale des Toilettes pour Tous, she coordinates collaborative efforts involving advocacy, education, awareness, communication, advice, and on-field implementation.As an advocate for sustainable sanitation, she strives to improve waste management practices in urban districts, reducing environmental contamination and enhancing public health.
Uganda

Martin Nyanzi Mawejje

Martin Nyanzi Mawejje is a sanitation engineer with over seven years of experience in strengthening sanitation systems, program development, coordination, and implementation.He focuses on developing approaches to town-wide sanitation services, particularly in relation to creating enabling environments which allow effective well-regulated service delivery, with appropriate supply chains and user involvement.
Burkina Faso

Zalissa Ouedraogo Kargougou

Zalissa Ouedraogo is Director of Sanitation Infrastructure Development at the Sanitation Directorate in Burkina Faso. She addresses sanitation challenges at the highest decision-making level, navigates the intricacies of sanitation issues, and implements strategies to ensure the safe and effective management of sanitation practices. With her expertise, Zalissa aims to bring about positive changes in behaviour and practices, significantly improving sanitation initiatives in Burkina Faso.
Cameroon

Fonyuy Carlos Bintar

Fonyuy Carlos Bintar is an environmental engineer with a mission to create meaningful change in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in Cameroon. He specialises in WASH initiatives, particularly within urban areas. Carlos’ expertise lies in enhancing sanitation conditions, acquired through extensive experience in humanitarian and volunteer services. He excels at designing and implementing sustainable WASH solutions, recognizing the critical link between environmental engineering and public health.
Guinea Conakry

Halimatou Diallo

Halimatou Diallo heads La Guinéenne des Toilettes GN, a private emptying company operating extensively across the sanitation value chain. She works on reducing open defecation and collaborates with the sanitation directorate to improve value chain management. Halimatou promotes innovative approaches in providing sanitation solutions tailored to the unique realities of Guinean communities. She is also the President of the Association Toilets for All in Guinée.
Uganda

John Mutebe

John Mutebe is a seasoned business development expert who manages water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs. In this role, John aids WASH sector entrepreneurs in establishing profitable and sustainable ventures. He spearheads the East African Rural Water Accelerator Program in Uganda, established the Women in WASH (WEWASH) forum and has mentored, coached, and supported over 500 WASH entrepreneurs, facilitating their access to seed funding.

WHAT YOU WILL GAIN FROM IT?

As a sanitation professional, you play a crucial role in the sanitation value chain and are positioned to drive change and innovation within your organizations and communities.

The fellowship program will provide you with leadership, communication, and advocacy training to enhance your leadership, positioning, and ability to engage stakeholders within and beyond your institutions. You will gain the necessary skills and confidence to become an influential leader and change-maker within your organization and advocate for the broader sector.

What to expect from the fellowship

In-person Training

Through three week-long training sessions, you will learn to drive organisational change, manage teams, craft compelling messages, engage with media, build effective alliances, engage with decision-makers, and mobilise support.

Virtual Training Sessions

Through virtual sessions, you will deepen learning from in-person boot camps and receive additional insight with the help of experienced trainers and speakers. You will revisit key concepts, get additional resources, share experiences and seek solutions to your challenges.

The Slingshot Event

This annual event showcases fellows’ achievements to key players in the sanitation sector. You will have a platform to present your change objective, impact, and accomplishments. You will also network with key decision-makers and demonstrate the fellowship’s impact on improving sanitation practices and policies.

Monitoring Progress

You will have virtual meetings with mentors to assess your progress, achievements, and challenges. Bi-monthly virtual check-ins with other fellows and mentors in the program are also planned to track progress, celebrate successes, and address challenges.

Mentorship

You will be assigned a mentor who provides one-on-one mentorship and guides you throughout your transformative journey to support your development in the program.

Media Engagement

You will have access to media support that will help elevate your voice and advance your change objective.

Alumni network

You can join an alumni network and connect to senior fellows through in-person and virtual meetups, social media and other platforms.
